Last week Crystal palace beat Manchester United to send them dismally crashing out of the esteemed professional UK football tournament the league cup. In spite of the fact that Manchester United played a younger, weaker team than is usual, this result was a complete shock to most of the football world. This is especially the case when one considers the poor season that Crystal Palace have had so far this year. They are struggling with their league form, and may be stuck in a dogged relegation battle at the end of the season. The glory is all theirs for now though, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they will be enjoying this brief period of glory in what looks to be a very difficult season.
It was even more difficult for one Palace fan who bet his months salary on Manchester winning the match. He did this to offset the disappointment he anticipated feeling when his team were knocked out. However now he has the financial disappointment which was completely unanticipated. If he had just played Lotto UK instead, he could have used his luck to make more money, not to lose money!
